Poor, poor Christians.
They live in fear of their lives these days, really they do. To give you an idea of how persucuted they are, I did a quick search for “church” in Superpages.com, and found only 1288 Christian churches brave enough to list their contact information in my city (Ft. Worth). Here’s the breakdown:
Baptist –587
Methodist –97
Church of Christ –84
Church of God –79
Catholic –56
Christian –52
Assembly of God –47
Presbyterian –38
Bible –34
Community –34
Lutheran –34
Pentecostal –29
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints –24
Episcopal –24
Jehovah’s Witness –16
Church of the Nazarene –15
Apostolic –12
Evangelical –9
Seventh Day Adventist –8
Full Gospel –8
United Church of Christ –1
Just think of those poor Baptists, who only have 587 places to go to look for like-minded people.
(For the record–6 mosques, 2 synagogues, and 1 Hindu temple.)
On my drive home, I pass a giant flag at one of these churches that has “Jesus” in 20 ft letters.
I pass no fewer than 3 churches with marquee signs to “get their message out” on my way to the grocery store.
Their two high holidays have been adopted as holidays by the federal government.
In the past two months, I have been visited by 3 “witnesses” from local churches.
There are signs on my block advertising Christian worship services and their times.
And yet, somehow, not being able to force my child to prayer at school is a threat to their freedom of speech.
Not being able to teach my child their creation myth as fact is a government assault on their worldview.
Being asked to acknowledge the existence of non-Christians puts their very existence in jeopardy.
I never realized how hard they have it!
