My neighbors rock.
We’ve had a string of bad luck in our neighborhood: three hospital visits and two family deaths in the past month. Without a second thought, the neighbors organized meals, laundry, housecleaning, babysitting, etc. to help out the affected families. This is a direct descendant of the same kind of cooperation that used to raise barns and put out fires: everyone pitches in and does what they can. It makes me think of a quote from an old Cosby Show episode: “If you can’t help out your neighbors, what’s the point of living next door?”
I haven’t lived in a community like this since I was kid, and I can’t imagine living in a better one.
Thanks to all the Elbe Trailer Trash for reminding me what it’s like.
