Well, the Senate voted to end discussion of the bankruptcy bill, and there are more than enough Republican senators toeing the line to make sure it passes.
What a relief! Some of those amendments were ridiculous!
Thank goodness the poor credit card companies won’t be capped at 30% interest rates and won’t be restricted from predatory lending practices: now they can compete with loan sharks on a level playing field.
And it’s a good thing that RICOH-act violating protest groups won’t be prevented from declaring bankruptcy to escape paying fines and civil damages. Phew! Law and order certainly dodged a bullet there!
We’re so lucky that patriotic creditors won’t be taken advantage of by those active military personnel, deployed National Guardsmen, disabled veterans, and their dependent families: being sent to the front lines of a war of choice is no excuse to miss payments on your car loan or your credit cards.
We can breathe a sigh of relief that all those lazy, no good cheats who try to declare bankruptcy because of some “catastrophic illness” or “death or disability of the primary provider” or some other flimsy excuse won’t be able to get away with it anymore. Remember: death is no excuse to be a deadbeat!
And can you believe some people claim they are victims of “identity theft” to weasel out of their credit card debt? I mean, come on! How often does that happen? Well, they won’t be able to get away with that crap anymore.
Honestly, I didn’t completely understand what was wrong with the amendment that would allow a federal homestead exemption for elderly bankruptcy filers, but I trust our representatives in Washington to be looking out for the best interests of their constituents. Besides, the elderly have Social Security and Medicare to take care of them, so we don’t have to worry about our grandparents ending up on the street or anything.
Thanks to all 69 Senators who ended the amendment period on this very important bill. And thanks to all the little people who helped out with this
PS: I just hope that those deadbeats who are now prevented from filing bankruptcy don’t ever discover that credit card debt is unsecured debt. Who knows what these losers would do if they ever realized that they only have to go through bankruptcy if they are actually trying to be fair to their creditors.
